SSBP Tree & Shrub Planting Day photos

SORCE bike club was in the South Surrey Bike Park planting native trees and shrubs. The weather was about as rainy as it gets here on the coast of BC. But that didn't stop SORCE from getting out there with shovels. The focus was on repairing the many areas of the forest that have sustained damage through trail braiding. We planted a lot of salal, ferns, wild rose, vine maple, salmon berries and simon berries in the areas most affected by the trail braids. -more photos on the dirtwest blog

South Surrey Bike Park – Tree & Shrub Planting Day

Show some LOVE . . . . for your urban forest
Saturday, November 2 – 9:30 am to noon.

The City of Surrey, volunteers from SORCE, and the Sunnyside Acres Heritage Society, will be planting native trees and shrubs in the South Surrey Bike Park.  Many areas of our forest have sustained damage through trail braiding and we will be repairing and restoring those areas to their natural condition.

This is a great event for forest walkers and cyclist of all ages. It is an awesome way to make new friends and a chance to give back to your community. So show some LOVE for your urban forest. Hope to see you there!

We will have coffee, muffins and other refreshments.
Bring gloves.
Meet at the picnic table.

From the City of Surrey Site:

Plant the next shrub or tree in Surrey parks and along boulevards. We'll provide the plants, shovels, and instruction - you just have to bring your love for beautifying our City and enhancing the trees in Surrey!
Since 1991, volunteers have planted over 10,000 trees throughout Surrey. Thousands of volunteers have made an impact, like

Habitat Enhancement Planting

When we plant: Every October. Open to all ages.

SORCE XC RACE 2013

The last Twoonie Race in the SORCE/Shed bike club race series wrapped up yesterday at the Delta Watershed. The course was a massive 10km loop and there was 2 categories to race in, either a 10km intermediate or 20km advanced race.
We had another great turnout of riders to this event. The Watershed was in full fall colour and conditions stayed foggy the whole day but trails were in prime shape and everyone had a great time! There are nearly 200 photos on the dirtwest blog>> lots of photos of riders on course, the prize giveaways and the apres party and race winners are toward the bottom of the page. Enjoy and see you next year! Thanks again to the organizers, volunteers, racers and keep in mind SORCE will be having an AGM in late November, we look forward to seeing you there!

Invergarry Tree Planting

Star InactiveStar InactiveStar InactiveStar InactiveStar Inactive

DSC 0087

The SORCE bike club was out in force today helping plant some native trees and shrubs in Invergarrry Park. Big thanks to Fay and Roberto from the City of Surrey for guiding the volunteers! SORCE provided food and refreshments for the hard working crew. Lots of Cedars, Alders, Salmon berries and other native species were planted in the area across the path from the pump track. The family friendly event completed the planting that started last year in the same area. Some of the Volunteers took a well earned break on the pump track including SORCE president Jordan. Fall update from the President

Star InactiveStar InactiveStar InactiveStar InactiveStar Inactive

With the US government currently shut down, we figured a letter from the President might be in order:

 DSC0801

Fellow riders,

The end of the season is rapidly approaching and so far it has been an amazing year for SORCE and the Surrey riding community.

Our Parks:

South Surrey Bike Park:

Thanks to the tireless efforts of Vince Saumuels and Peter Falizsewski the new flow trail at SSBP is almost complete and absolutely the most fun a person can have on two wheels. With the fall weather approaching trail building season is now upon us, trail days coming soon.

We are also currently working on a plan with the city to try and revitalize the large set of jumps and the pumptrack in the DJ area, construction is tentatively set for mid to late october, more updates coming soon... read more...
